Dr. Saito’s Observations: Agent Dunham is the driving force behind the Fringe Team. After becoming embroiled in these fringe events in 2008, she decided to stop at nothing until she uncovered the truth behind these events and her former partner’s betrayal to the FBI.

Some fringe events, or the Pattern, as it’s called, have a special relation to Agent Dunham because she was experimented on as a young girl by Dr. Walter Bishop and Dr. William Bell at a daycare center in Jacksonville, Florida. They injected her with a manufactured drug they called Cortexiphan. They theorized that children have infinite mental capacity at birth and slowly lose that capacity as they grow older, so Cortexiphan was developed to prevent this mental decay.

Agent Dunham actually does have intriguing mental capabilities (such as setting fire to the daycare center in one of the case files) but they weren’t gone over in much detail. The process worked, however, the fact that she had this and God knows what other experiments done to her as a child is a horrifying thought.

Supplemental: I found mention of an “Other Side” in some of the other case files. Since Agent Dunham’s abilities and this “Other Side” were both carefully kept out of the records, I feel as though they may be connected.
